Beautiful cars at German Autofest.
Come dream with me.
Last Sunday I went to the pre 90s German Autofest show in Albert Park. I have never been to an all German car show before, so it was a new thing to explore. Upon arrival (off the tram, haha) the first noteworthy sight was the lot of gracefully lined up luxury cars high and low. Starting with that dazzling metallic blue of the Mercedes 280sl radiating at my love frequency, I walked the Mercedes section first.
Then I ran into this bagged w114 1968 Mercedes ute. This thing looks so cool and just resonates with my styling niche.
Then we walked “around the Benz” to check out some of the Porsches.
Porsche built just 100 of these legendary 550s Spyders. It just oozes with history such as James Dean being killed in his own in 1955. They also went really well in motorsport such as taking the win of the Nürburgring Eiffel race in 1953. Too interesting!
These type squarebacks just make me want to strap a surfboard to the top and drop everything to go for a trip up the coast.
My inner boy racer always surfaces when I see a hot hatch especially a Mk1 GTI, its love.
This NSU Prinz and its east west rear mounted air cooled engine is sweet. And they were a really popular hill climb car back in time. They were phased out in 1973.
I would love to own all of these cars. They are the best (DAS AUTO!) I didn’t want to leave these beady, round eyed cars behind, they’re just so packed full of personality and elegance that its like leaving a little person behind. One day.. one day I WILL own a car as beautifully created as one of these.
